What is Day Training?
HALO Dog Training’s positive reinforcement day training is the ultimate win-win for clients. With day training, we come to your house and do the training for you! It is like graduate school for your canine companion yet you do not need to send them away to a board and train facility where punishment is often part of the training process. All training occurs in your home and neighborhood – the places where your dog spends all its time and gets into the most trouble. We arrange and use as many real-life trials as we can and get out of the house to train in key environments. A focus is placed on proofing behavior for distraction in these environments.
Day training consists of 1-hour sessions 4 days a week. During this time your dog will get multiple training sessions, play time, and a walk. At the end of the week we will have a 1-hour transfer session with you during which we provide the necessary coaching for you to work on your dog’s new skills, reinforcing that week’s training. You are an essential part of the training plan. We provide you with guidance and prevention management techniques to ensure that unwanted behaviors aren’t accidentally reinforced and made worse.
Please Note: Day training is not appropriate for dogs with human aggression or dogs with a bite history. Please contact us for alternatives.

HALO Puppy Jumpstart
The HALO Puppy Jumpstart program provides the foundation for a lifelong partnership with your dog based on mutual trust and understanding. Multiple behavioral studies indicate the learning ability of an 8-week old puppy is equal to that of an adult dog. The time to start training foundation behaviors is early and often after acquiring your puppy. The HALO Puppy Jumpstart 4-week program includes:
- 1.5-hour initial assessment, taking a detailed history and discussing the training plan
- 16 one-hour sessions meeting four times a week for 4 weeks with 3 one-hour transfer sessions with the caregiver to teach you all the skills needed to maintain and strengthen new behaviors.
- Several training sessions an hour plus a walk and puppy playtime.
- Personalized guidance with sessions tailored to your dog and household.
- Extensive work on housetraining with a personalized housetraining schedule, detailed guidelines, and specific guidance on how to make housetraining easy and quick.
- Proper crate training.
- Teaching foundation behaviors of “Touch a Target”, “Respond to a Cue”, “Give Attention to the Handler”, “Offer Behavior”, and “Settle in a Crate or on a Mat”
- Foundation behaviors are those key behaviors upon which all other behaviors are based.

THE WELL-SHAPED DOG
The Well-Shaped Dog is perfect for the newly adopted dog, the older dog who needs manners training, and graduates of the HALO Puppy Jumpstart or HALO Puppy Quick Start programs. We use shaping in this basic obedience program which is the art of breaking the behavior down into small components and reinforcing approximations of the goal behavior. Shaping is a fast and efficient way to develop new behavior.

The Well-Shaped Dog II is the perfect way to enhance the fluency of the behaviors learned during The Well-Shaped Dog. Fluency refers to an animal’s (or person’s) ability to perform a given behavior with accuracy, responsiveness, and speed in any environment.
